ANDY TOWNSEND

Chief Executive Officer and Founding Director

With over 30 years of operational experience in the hospitality and leisure sector, after early career years with DeVere Hotels and Whitbread Lansbury Hotels, Andy is a former Divisional Managing Director of Barrett International Resorts, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts and previously Director of Food & Beverage with Hilton Group and formerly Stakis Hotels & Resorts.

In 2005, Andy co-founded Legacy Hotels & Resorts as a dedicated full service management company now recognised as one of the UK’s leading ‘white label’ operators of internationally branded and independent hotels. The portfolio extends to include projects also in Southern Spain, The Republic of Macedonia and Sweden.

In early 2013, Legacy, via it’s now wholly owned subsidiary, Branded Hotels Management, were announced as the operator selected by Liverpool City Council to manage the 216 bedroom, four star headquarters hotel which opened in Q1 2016 as part of the development of the convention centre at the Echo Arena. This development in the North West was first ever, new build Pullman branded hotel in the UK. Also in the North West of England, Legacy are the JV partner for the preferred operating company to develop and deliver a mixed use residential scheme on the Wirral to include a Jack Nicklaus championship golf course and a 90 guestroom, full service resort hotel.

During 2018 Legacy Hotels & Resorts assisted in the development, delivery and successful opening of two new build hotels – the Mercure Bridgwater Hotel, Somerset with 119 guestrooms and The Edgbaston Park Hotel, on the campus of the University of Birmingham with 253 guestrooms.

As we move towards 2020 Legacy is currently progressing with a further five active new build pipeline projects delivering in excess of 800 additional guestrooms.

Andy is the independent non-executive director of a 200 bedroom hotel, exhibition and convention centre in Skopje, Macedonia and former Chairman of UK Hospitality (previously British Hospitality Association) – Heart of England. Andy is now a member of the UKH advisory council.

Often Andy supports the recovery, turnaround of assets, Independent Business Reviews, Bank Monitoring and NED positions for various banks and stakeholders through the advisory business Andy co-owns, Hospitality Ventures Ltd (HVL).
